Event Brief:
The “Voices of Practice: A Series on Meaningful Community Engagement” is a global initiative aimed at amplifying community voices and ensuring that research is genuinely community-owned.
Co-organized by the NIHR Global Health Research Centre for Non-Communicable Diseases and Environmental Change, the Global Fund for Children, and The George Institute for Global Health, this series will bring together researchers, practitioners, academics, and community-based organizations to explore various facets of community-led research.
The inaugural session of the series is scheduled for 28 August 2025.
Session | 1:
Title: Who owns research? Shifting Power to the Communities
Ms. Rituu Nanda, a passionate advocate for community-led change, will lead the conversation for the first session in the series titled, “Who truly owns research?” Ms Nanda and her partners will explore the different aspects of community-led research and the pivotal role communities play in enriching equitable research.
Thematic Focus
The objective of the Voice of Practice series is to foster understanding, collaboration, and learning among participants to foster community-led research in an inclusive manner. The inaugral session of the series will focus on the following four key thematic areas:
- Insights into how communities can move from just participants to co-creators of knowledge
- Real stories from grassroots NGO partners that showcase community leadership in action
- Practical strategies to embed inclusion and participation into your work
- A space to engage, question, and co-learn with peers who are rethinking the researcher- community relationship
