Blog series to mark the World Health Day 2024

WHO observes April 7 as the world health day. The date marks the founding anniversary of WHO and every year, WHO assigns a specific theme for the day to spread awareness about health concerns that affect the population at large. This year, the theme for the health day is ‘My health, my right’

This year’s theme was chosen to champion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination, the official website states.

At the NIHR-GHR centre for Non Communicable Diseases and Environmental Change, our young researchers work with diverse communities in different geographies. Through a series of blogs, they share their views on how we can champion the spirit of right to health for everyone.

In this first blog of the series, Dr. Renu John shares her experience about visiting a remote health and wellness center in South India. Her piece throws light on the challenges faced by health care workers in providing health services in some of the lesser-known corners of the country.

The blogs were developed as a part of a workshop conducted for the researchers of NIHR-GHR Center on Non Communicable Diseases and Environmental Change. The workshop was led by Prof. Usha Raman who is a distinguished academic in the field of communication.
