Course Brief:
The NIHR Global Health Research Centre for Non-communicable Diseases and Environmental Change facilitated a training course on Planning, Reporting and Interpretation of Statistical Results in Health Research. Expertly led by Dr. Rashmi Pant from the George Institute for Global Health, India, the course had thirty-one participants from Indonesia, India, and Bangladesh. Delivered through the Global RT Moodle platform, the course featured interactive sessions, open-access reading material, and a end-of-course assignment designed specifically for the cohort, ensuring a rich learning experience.
Intended Learning Objectives:
- Identify and define outcomes and exposures and their levels of measurement.
- Distinguish between effect, effect measures and effect size.
- Interpret statistical results commonly reported in health research.
- Choose the right analytic methods to match the research question and study design.
- Identify key components of data analysis plan for their research.
Spanning over 4.5 hours, the training course offered pertinent insights and knowledge. The valuable aspects of the training, according to participants, included:
- Case based learning beyond theoretical concepts.
- Outlining of the detailed framework for statistical analysis.
- Learning how to formulate a strong research question and align it with study objectives, research designs, effective measures and analysis strategies.
